Therapy Dog Training Centre AAI Training, Industry Placement and Professional Development 1. “PAWS FOR A CAUSE"COMMUNITY PROGRAM "Paws for a cause" program is for people who would like to benefit from spending quality time with their pet dog by sharing their pet with others. The "Paws for a cause" program, is beneficial to both parties, dog/owner and community. The program where many begin with giving back to the community by volunteering with their well-mannered dog. Volunteering can give you the opportunity to try something new, gain experience, develop skills, improve your career prospects, build confidence and meet new people. Through volunteering you can: Take on a challenge - Getting involved in something new can be a real challenge. "Paws for a cause" program description The Paws for a cause program, is beneficial to both parties, dog/owner and community. The program where many begin with giving back to the community by volunteering with their well-mannered dog. Volunteering often benefits both parties There are many opportunities at Therapeutic Dog Service, for individuals to use their talents to help others, either directly or through the provided services and assistance to people in specific areas. Volunteering benefits not only the organisation or individual getting the assistance, but also the volunteer. “It’s like therapy,” “It can give you a sense of purpose.” Volunteering provides many benefits to both mental and physical health. • increases self-confidence. • provides a sense of purpose. • combats depression. • helps you stay physically healthy. If the volunteer has a pet that can be credentialed by the organisation, they can be sent to visit facilities or homes. If your pet is not suitable for our "Paws for a Cause community program, we have several areas where you can volunteer within Therapeutic Dog Services, Community Programs and help make a difference.

It covers all the basics and provides a pathway into more advanced studies if you want to move through to Entry Level, Therapy Dog Novice, Therapy Dog or Therapy Dog Advanced. Wanting to give back and to make a difference in our community by volunteering, this program is designed for you. Training Calendar Our Paws for a cause Training: start in February through to December of each year. • Autumn - March, April and May • Winter - June, July, August • Spring - September, October and November We offer training times during the working week, day, evening and weekends. Industry Work Placement Our "Paws for a cause" program offer, community work, volunteer placement which they can learn applied techniques as well as opportunities to take their good - nature dogs to our industry partner, community facilities such as hospitals, rehabilitation centres, disability and service the general public. The aim of the program is to help improve the wellbeing of patients, residents and their families through positive contact with visiting volunteers and their dogs.

In - house classroom and Online training • Online Training: 5 hours mandatory initial online training • Training: 5 Hours mandatory initial in-house classroom training • Optional Professional Development: 10 hours Industry community work placement • 18 hours x 12 Visits (over 6 months) Requirement criteria Dog requirement and Prerequisite • must have basic training. • is temperamentally sound with sound obedience and social skills. • Dog Veterinarian Health Clearance (annual), up to date with vaccinations and been approved to participate in the "Paws for a cause" community program as seen fit and healthy by qualified veterinarian. • Vaccination (C5) (annual) • Evaluation: Temperament and skills set (annual) has participated and passed the mandatory temperament evaluation Human requirement and commitment • Online Training: 5 hours mandatory initial online training • Training: 5 Hours mandatory initial in-house classroom training • Optional Professional Development: 10 hours • Industry Community Work Placement: 18 hours x 12 Visits (over 6 months) • You may continue in this role after the initial 6 months, for a further 6 months, you will be required to pay registration fee of $50.00 for each year thereafter. • Police Clearance (updated every 3 years)

ENTRY LEVEL Entry Level, Pet Therapy Dog Program is the program where many of our graduates begin with their pet therapy dog and handler education. Course Description Our most popular program is our Entry Level, Pet Therapy Dog Program and is the program where many of our graduates begin with their pet therapy dog and handler education. Many people begin this program due to a love for dogs, and a desire to spend their days working with them and can share their canine with others. Dog must have basic training, good manners, and love contact with people. What You Will Learn Entry Level program is the perfect place to discover whether a career working with your dog is for you. It covers all the basics and provides a pathway into more advanced studies if you want to move into advanced levels such as Therapy Dog Novice, Therapy Dog or Therapy Dog Advanced. Whether you are working with dogs already or preparing to make a difference in our community by volunteering, this program is designed for you. THERAPY DOG NOVICE (TDN) Therapy Dog Novice Therapy Dog Novice is the program where many of our entry level graduates have discovered that a career working with their dog is for them. Course Description Therapy Dog Novice Program is the program where many of our entry level graduates have discovered that a career working with their dog is for them. Many of our graduates have completed all the entry level requirements and now are wanting to move onto more advanced studies and advanced industry placement. Many are committed to make a difference participating in community work, part time volunteering career and are interested in pursuing therapy dog certification. What You Will Learn Our Therapy Dog Novice program addresses basic and advanced learning theory through lectures, reading assignments, and industry community volunteer placement: but, most importantly, it teaches the practical application of dog assisted interventions, pet therapy dog and skill set training in Activities, Education and Therapy. Our trainers in the classroom are the same trainers that you will find working with you during practical “hands-on” lessons. Therapy Dog Training Centre AAI Training, Industry Placement and Professional Development Prerequisites Team must have prior minimum of 12 months’ service delivery, as a working Entry Level Pet Therapy Team, this is a prerequisite before you can register for the next grade level, of Therapy Dog Novice. Or, you will have to prove that you have completed a similar course in the same or a related subject, at a lower grade level. Completed 24 visits (36 hours) in an accredited Entry Level, Pet Therapy role. Dog is temperamentally sound with sound obedience, social skills, training and skill sets, qualifies them to aid at a Therapy Dog Novice level. REGISTRATION FEE $300.00 Price includes full fee, Dog skills set evaluation, Police clearance, program materials, industry community work placement and insurance. In - house classroom and Online training • Training: 10 Hours mandatory initial in-house classroom training • Online Training: 10 hours mandatory initial online training • Professional Development: 10 hours Industry community work placement Prerequisites: • Completed 24 visits (36 hours) in an accredited Entry Level, Pet Therapy role, within a 12-month period. • Requirements: • Therapy Dog Novice requires 48 Visits (72 hours) over 12 months to advance to Therapy Dog.

THERAPY DOG (TD) Therapy Dog Program is the program where many of our therapy dog novice graduates have discovered that a career working with their dog is for them. Course Description Many of our graduates have completed all the entry level and therapy dog novice requirements and now are wanting to move onto more advanced studies in goal orientated therapy and advanced industry placement roles. Many of graduates continue to make a difference part time volunteering, however at the Therapy Dog level you can pursue the therapy dog certification and join our qualified professionals team, creating a paid career, for you and your therapy dog in service delivery of goal orientated programs. What You Will Learn Our Therapy Dog program addresses advanced learning theory through a 6 week training program, 6 weeks x 30 hours in house classroom training, lectures, reading assignments, online reading study and advanced goal orientated industry placement: but, most importantly, it teaches the practical application of dog assisted interventions, therapy dog and skill set training in Activities, Education and Therapy. Our trainers in the classroom are the same trainers that you will find working with you during practical “hands-on” lessons. Industry Work Placement Our Therapy Dog certified program offers members, paid AAI industry roles within specialised goal orientated programs or facilitating training programs. These Members and their dogs have been committed to two years of service delivery in a volunteering capacity, they are conversant in applied techniques and the dog finds working at this level is for them, with sound temperament, impeccable manners and service delivery history it is a well-deserved opportunity to take the registered Therapy Dog in a paid employment capacity. Therapy Dog program provides a pathway into paid employment and many more advanced professional development studies.

Therapy Dog Training Centre AAI Training, Industry Placement and Professional Development Prerequisites Team must have prior minimum of 2 years’ service delivery, as a working Entry Level and Therapy Dog Novice this is a prerequisite before you register for the Therapy Dog certification. Or, you will have to prove that you have completed a similar course in the same or a related subject, at a lower grade level. Completed 100 visits (150 hours) in an accredited Therapy Dog Novice role. Dog and handler must show skill sets, for goal orientated therapy, solid foundation on AAI procedures and policies, this qualifies them to aid at a therapy dog level. REGISTRATION FEE $600.00 Price includes full fee, Dog temperament evaluation, Police clearance, program materials and industry community work placement. In - house classroom training Therapy Dog Training: is offered twice a year, March through to May and September to November of each year. • Autumn - March, April and May • Spring - September, October and November Therapy Dog Training is offered Day, Night and Evening sessions. THERAPY DOG ADVANCED Therapy Dog Advanced, is the program where many of our Certified Therapy Dog graduates wish to complete further Animal Assisted Interventions Studies, in Activities, Education and Therapy. For registration in the Therapy Dog Advanced training the team must have a minimum of 3 years’ service delivery in animal assisted intervention programs.
