Bronnie and Spikey Bronnie Smith June 16 at 4:14pm Hi Everyone, a little story about my Spikey boy. Spike and I went to Eldercare, Acacia Court, Hendon this morning for a therapy visit. The new Lifestyle Coordinator, Karen, caught up with me to give me the list as I couldn't find it, (I was using another one for Volunteers that was there). We were in the Whistler Wing and had just finished visiting a couple of people in their rooms. Spikey and I walked into the Lounge area where Karen was doing the Mexican hat dance with a client while 8 others sat around clapping. Spike got lots of pats from them and then I asked Karen if we could do some tricks for them. Spike then shook hands, did two spins, one right, one left, did a hi 5, I shot him and he fell down and rolled onto his back making out he was dead, he then went into a sitting position and gently took a treat, I also placed a treat on his nose but he still hasn't quite mastered that as he dropped it on the ground instead of catching it. Everyone clapped, I then said he was tired, so there was a spare two seater lounge, I put his towel across the seats and asked him to jump up and go to sleep which he did. He got another round of applause. The smiles and laughter and oohs and ahs from the clients was just so precious. Spike wagged his little tail quite a bit. It was a really enjoyable visit. I had just been told yesterday that my 74 year old neighbour has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Stomach cancer and has been given 6 to 12 months to live. I was feeling pretty sad this morning and didn't want to go to Acacia Court. I'm so glad I went as Spikey helped brighten my day too . Community Grant Funding Troy and Meeka 24th May 2017 Meeka Moo feeling excited. May 24 at 9:36pm It takes a lot for my dad to be dressed in long pants and nice shirt plus allowing himself to be photographed but tonight he did cos' he loves TDS so much. By himself he went to the TTG council presentation night to accept $3000 on behalf of TDS. When the TTG Mayor presented a certificate to him, my dad asked if he could say a few words, after thanking the TTG council, he gave a quick talk about TDS and asked for any potential volunteers to approach him if they want. He gave out 20 business cards, could have been more but that was all he had, each other community group asked if they could be involved with TDS, he got swamped by others. Each ward councillor gave him their cards and said they want to help in their areas. The TTG council volunteer boss will meet with my dad and Jody to arrange what help they can offer in recruiting. He says he was pooping himself having to be there by himself but he is glad now to be home in his shorts :)

Pennwood Village Pennwood aged care Pennington has lots of gardens and statues to explore. Fund My Community South Australian community is invited to decide which projects are funded. How does it work? Eligible non-government, not-for-profit community organisations can apply for funding between $10,000 and $100,000 to deliver a service or project that meets the program's objectives. The South Australian community is then invited to decide which projects are funded. The projects that receive the most community support are verified before being offered funding. https://yoursay.sa.gov.au/…/fund-my-community…/fmc_ideas/469 Archie and Neo Two boy pooches had their debut TDS visits today, Archie the Skye terrier x who knows what and Neo the Cairn terrier. Both did very well for their first time, both of those boys like their food so they will be trying their best to get any food samples they can from clients. Written by Troy and Meeka

April 27th Meeka and Stella I joined Megan and Stella for the first visit to Allity Smithfield, me and Stella got some nice treats and at the end of the shift, we had our noses directed towards the kitchen...lunch was being served. Cuddle Time It's not unusual to see Ms Morrish down on the ground sneaking a cuddle from us furrys every now and then, she sure loves to get up close and personable. We love it when she gets down on our level and gives us a bit of rough housin and cuddles. Have you met Sunny and Michael Sunny and Michael have been sharing the love every week at Eldercare Glengowrie, since October 2016. Sunny so looks forward to his visits, and enjoys the company of all his new found friends.

Dinky and Emily at the Repatriation Hospital The small fur healer and I very much enjoyed our shift at the Repat today! Chi Chi's Shopping Day Went food shopping today, since we aren't allowed any of those chocolate eggy thingys. I bought a chicken that is bigger than me....Ha ha Denzil O'Brien feeling proud. April 10 Denzil, Annie and Chilli Just got home from our first visit to Ronald McDonald House. Chilli was fantastic! Two toddlers and their mothers, she hasn't had a lot of experience with small children before, at least not at ground level. There was a lot of (welcomed) face slurping (both families have dogs), and she lay on the floor, got tummy pats from the adults, and little tiny hand pats from the toddlers. We were so proud of her! Bronnie Smith April 21 Spike and Bronnie Spikey and I went out to Evanston near Gawler this morning to do our very first home visit. Nancy (84 years) and her hubby Eric (98 years young) were delighted to meet Spike. Their daughter, Heather, who organised the visit with TDS, got on the floor for lots of cuddles and doggy breath kisses. After about ten minutes Spikey settled right in. He reversed onto Nancy's foot, parked his butt and promptly laid down. Nancy thought this was lovely and sat there stroking his side with her free foot. Eric came in and joined us, he told me stories of their dogs through the years. A most interesting and wonderful time spent. Spike was exhausted afterwards........

Saturday 18th March Jody Morrish TDS Inc. CEO Phew what a day, for those that don't know Cadbury broke his tail, 2 infected areas so only choice was to dock tail on Thursday. Follow-up appointment today... After 5 long hours trying to work out plan of care for Cadbury, I had the privilege of helping out Dr Neil in the surgical area seeing to a greyhound, Chihuahua, 2 toy poodles, Samoyed and a kitten. Talk about crash course on veterinary role. He said he would give me a job anytime, I could only but laugh.....I was trashed after my 5 hour ordeal.....lol 7 Funding Applications by the end of March Troy Donaldson TDS Inc. Board Secretary By the end of March, TDS will have submitted at least 7 funding applications totalling $92160. Much work and checking has and will be done to ensure we are considered a chance. We know funds are limited and we are just one of many after the same so we require some luck to be on our side when decisions are made. Even if we got all the funds we ask for, while $92160 seems a lot of money, it only scratches the surface of what we need. We are a charity but that costs a lot of money for us to be so, we will be getting tougher on some facilities owing money, they can no longer get visits without donating their agreed amount, an amount that they are able to claim back on their taxes 100%, so it hurts us both financially and emotionally when they neglect to forward their agreed contracted amounts, if you knew how little some places donate for visits you would shake your head in disbelief. We guarantee we are doing all we can to secure funding/sponsorship from a large variety of sources and will continue to provide services to those needing them. We are slowly expanding our reach and while we may lose a facility for whatever reason, we will eventually cover all of metropolitan South Australia so volunteers can do visitations in their areas with less travel, we thank those who travel far to visit and appreciate the patience you show. Ruby and Sue commence their first visit This is 4 1/2 yr. old Ruby the boxer with her mum Sue Ciccarello, they had their first TDS visit today and both did well, it was warm and humid and there were several distractions but Ruby stayed calm and made the clients and staff happy. The other picture is Ruby with a staff member.

Update on Karma Update on Karma, Oh my dogness has Karma and parents been through the wringer medically this past week. Update from Cheryl: Karma has been very sick after a pig out on mouldy bread and was admitted to hospital last week Friday. She has ingested toxins and her liver had basically collapsed (one liver enzyme is meant to be between 10 to 100 and Karmas was 2029!) Now her heart is affected and fluid in the chest and high and irregular heartbeat...... I have been in phone contact with Cheryl all week and it has gone from one extreme to another, however good news is that Karma is home, and further testing will be conducted for another health issue in which was picked up through testing. Thinking of you Karma. March 12th Get well soon Leo Leo the therapy dog has had a rough week. Owner Dot updates us that Leo is getting lots of TLC from the staff at Tea Tree Gully Vet Hospital. He is not happy about his chicken and rice diet. He neatly picks out the chicken and leaves the rice. It is such a relief to have him back home

Update from Meeka about TTG council fund Meeka Moo TDS Inc. Community Visiting Ambassador Dog My dad went to the TTG council fund application info session this afternoon. He got lots of good information and says he was the best behaved in class, he was disgusted with other groups and people who were there for the session. Some talked loudly among themselves and on their phones while the lady was trying to speak, they also asked dumb questions. He reckons he was so good and smooth with his charm and best $10 shorts, Donna the fund application coordinator is going to call him personally to make sure the application has exactly what the council wants to hear. He says he will attend every local council info session possible to get the correct information for their funding and will also attend council discussion meetings about them. There is a good local art display at the TTG library he says, he liked this dragon and says it's lucky he loves TDS cos' he don't go out in this heat for frivolous things. Cramond Clinic March 10th Troy Donaldson TDS Inc. Board Secretary As we wait for directors at the QEH palliative care ward to sign off for TDS visits to begin, Jody gets an enquiry from the Cramond Mental Health Centre at the QEH asking her and the AAI boys to work their magic. Can she possibly fit in more work for herself? Of course 'yes' was her answer and in 2 days they were signed on ready to go. Our boss likes a challenge; I know the clients will be in for a treat getting that extra help to improve their lives.

Kelly, Kirra and Jax Owner Kelly and Ms Kira (TDS Inc. Community Visiting Dog) brought a very special visitor to the office on Monday. Meet Jax the boxer, what a beauty he is, and he's got talent. 18 weeks old. Oh my! Melt look at the face, love a boxer but always love to see you Ms Kira for my staffy fix, you are such a good girl. Update on Play ford Troy Donaldson TDS Inc. Board Secretary TDS has a very busy couple of months to deal with. Last Friday, Jody and my dad met with the lifestyle coordinators of two new facilities who will be getting visits courtesy of the Play ford Alive funding we got. Smithfield Allity aged care will begin their visits in late April; The Aboriginal Elders Village in Davoren Park will begin sooner. The AAI team will be doing half of the visits to the Elders Village as they require some specialised work. There is much to learn about the Elders Village and what can and can't be done on visits. I won't be visiting there as it will be too much for me to handle. We have several funding applications to fill out and lodge in March/April and there are some major awards we will be nominating Jody for as well as TDS for Charity of the year and other awards, any prizes would be nice but mostly it is to get recognition and awareness for TDS. Our eyes are going to have to stay sharp for one award, it states we should put aside 30hrs to complete the nomination form...yep you read that right...30hrs! (Dad is mumbling "they better have a @%&*$! Save/edit option").

March 3rd, 2017 Major Funding Applications Troy Donaldson TDS Inc. Board Secretary Extract from TDS Inc. Facebook page: Meeka and Troy My dad is working on a major funding application from SA Health for $30000. Last night he had to skip 3 sections that were required to be filled before moving to next section but he did not yet have the final costs worked out, so he wrote garbage in them to let him proceed and then go back later to fill in the exact costings. Two hours later he gets to the last page expecting to see a 'save & review/edit' option. Bad mistake assuming a major govt. department would be so helpful in providing such.....NOPE, he gets a notice saying 'thank you for your application, it will be forwarded to the funding committee for consideration'....at this point a loud WTF!! was heard. He is waiting patiently to call their office as soon as they open to explain the sections containing lines 'blah blah blah 100'....'bugga this one, I'll come back to you later'....'just give the money' and other nonsense should not be considered as the finished application and he will get started on a new one....lucky we don't pay this guy. March 4th Melissa and Ruby Melissa reports: Clients response Mr G to Mrs G: "Ruby's here! Oh & the dog lady!"
